In Megan’s words, “these hands are hers” Work Statement

My visual and tactile investigations emerge as crocheted paintings in this body of work. These paintings are a meditative practice, where each turn of the thread marks a step in the process of building and discovering the form. The tangible mark making is like a hand reaching out to guide the observer. The forms are reminiscent of domestic textiles, specifically inspired by those crafted from multiple generations of maternal figures in my family. The composed tactile panels offer an invitation to witness the intimacy of something adored and cherished in the home. Like a delicate familial heirloom containing decades of stains and pulls - hands and memories. These tactile paintings encourage a familiar felt presence and a warm welcome home.
